miShare Could Be the Start of Something Good
I’ve been in countless situations where somebody is hyping up a new song, artist or mixtape- going on and on about how I ” gotta hear this”, only to realize I can only hear this masterpiece by holding a listening session with the other person’s iPod right there on the spot. This isn’t a problem in a laid back, social atmosphere, but I’m rarely in those- so there’s plenty of times when I would much rather grab the masterpiece from the other person and check out the material on my time.
The new miShare device may be the answer to my prayers. The USB 2.0 powered device allows users to select music, videos and any other sort of file you can add to an iPod and transfer the data to a friend’s iPod simply by connecting the two devices to the miShare hub.
Here is the official product description from the makers of miShare:
miShare is a smart little handheld gadget for connecting iPods and sharing files. No computer or cable is needed, and it’s super easy to use. It was developed by our start-up based in Brooklyn, New York, working closely with some great production partners in China. This is our first product.
While this technology isn’t exactly groundbreaking, and actually appears years behind the peer-to-peer file sharing capabilities already available in Microsoft’s Zune Player, it certainly introduces a new level of functionality to the iPod. Also, seeing as how the ratio of iPod users to Zune users I know is 60 billion to 1, I think there’s a lot of potential in this product.
I’m not sure I’m ready to put down $100 to test miShare out…yet, as it still appears to be in it’s infancy and I try to stay away from first generation anything, but until Apple develops an over-the-air file sharing system like the Zune, this may be the best file swapping tool developed for the iPod thus far.
