New Big Sean x Mike Posner Videos

I saw both of these guys perform last week at a packed venue in Chapel Hill. I got tipped about the show by my homie Corey from Beats & Bombs, who also tipped me off about this new Big Sean video and I decided to explore what the hype was about.

Both of these artists are names that I have seen growing in popularity over the past few months on the blog circuit, but I was certainly shocked by the crowd they pulled. Rather than a bunch of dudes in neon-colored Supras and skinny jeans, as I was expecting due to the blog hype, the venue was split about 80/20 female (beautiful females I might add) and the entire place had more energy than about 90% of the shows I attended during my time in New York.

The sound of these artists, combined with opening act 2am Club, who sounded like a pop-friendlier version of Gym Class Heroes, seems to signal another growing genre of hip-hop music that is blurring the lines between college rock and rap. It’s about as far away from your Rick Ross’s and Young Jeezy’s of the game as you can get, but I think there’s room at the table for everybody.

Shaun Boothe “Unauthorized Biography of Sean Combs” (Video)

I really think this Shaun Boothe cat is going to do big things. I posted up a collaboration he did with Amanda Diva called Music Man back in April (see Shaun Boothe feat. Amanda Diva “Music Man” (VIDEO)) and I’ve continued to be impressed with the stuff he’s delivered since then.

He’s got a sense of creativity that is certainly outside the box in terms of mainstream hip-hop, yet his songs and videos don’t get overly artistic, which will usually translate into something more recognizable as backpack or emo rap and bore me to death.

His latest project, Unauthorized Biography of Sean Combs, is a video dedication to the career of P.Diddy, as told through Sean’s raps and the accompanying visuals. This is the 6th Biography video in a 12 part series and he states the next story will highlight the career of Oprah. Side note: Did Oprah get her hip-hop pass reinstated?

B.o.B aka Bobby Ray “No Mans Land” (VIDEO)

It seems like I’ve been saying this dude is going to be the next to blow up in the hip-hop world for 2 years now (see Do You Know Who B.o.B. is Yet?). I recently described B.o.B. as the biggest hip-hop artist no one has ever heard of, due to his success in major placements for his music and sponsorships.

Well, it appears that he’s finally getting a push, as a video surfaced last week with Bobby Ray and Atlantic Records President Julie Greenwald clowning around about the label finally being ready to back him.

His debut album will reportedly drop in April 2010. I’m already excited.
